Glaucoma is an eye condition that can lead to blindness if not treated. There are several types of glaucoma including acute angle closure glaucoma, narrow-angle glaucoma, chronic or primary open-angle glaucoma.
Glaucoma cannot be cured, but it can be treated. Medical therapy treats glaucoma via prescription drops, lasers and/or surgery. These services are available at Omni Eye Care and performed by Dr. Lapsi.
In most cases, there are no symptoms of glaucoma. If you have open-angle glaucoma you will experience slow vision loss as the only symptom in very advanced cases. Acute angle closure glaucoma can cause intense eye pain, nausea, vomiting, and visual disturbances. This type requires emergency medical care. This is why it is so important to see your ophthalmologist for routine eye exams to diagnose and treat glaucoma in the earliest stages.
At Omni Eye Care, you can get treatment for glaucoma that ranges from medicine therapy to laser (SLT) therapy. Dr. Lapsi is well versed in glaucoma as this is one of her specialty areas. She is able to detect glaucoma at any stage and provide you with an aggressive treatment plan to help prevent vision loss.
Only through medication and/or surgery can you slow the potential of blindness due to glaucoma as noted by the Glaucoma Research Foundation. Glaucoma can be a blinding condition if left untreated.
